JohnConnor spelas nu av Christian Bale. Året är 2018 och det är första filmen i serien som behandlar det som sker i framtiden. Tidsförvrängningen kvarstår dock, i filmen kommer Connor få tampas med huruvida en terminator är ditsänd ifrån framtiden för att förgöra honom ...

James Middleton, the associate producer of the film, stated the film "[is] really about the birth of a new hero," and McG said that it will also be about the development of the Model 101 Terminator. He explained the film will "begin again very much in the spirit of what [Christopher] Nolan did with Batman," in that it will stand on its own without the original films, and that it is "a bit of a sequel and a prequel because it tells the story of how we got there."(wiki)
